Mia Renfer began her musical upbringing in Shizuoka, Japan, where she was born of Japanese/Swiss parentage, wedded to the violin from the age of three. She graduated her Bachelor’s degree in performing arts at the Hochschule der Künste Bern under the guidance of Monika Urbaniak and received the Artist Diploma at The Glenn Gould Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada, where she studied with Mayumi Seiler. She also graduated her Master’s degree in music pedagogy at the Hochschule Musik - Luzern under the guidance of Daniel Dodds. She is currently doing the Master’s degree in performance at the Hochschule Musik - Luzern, where she is studying with Daniel Dodds.

Mia has performed at numerous concerts in Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Ukraine, Canada, Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea and Turkey. In 2024 she went on the Asia and Istanbul tour with the Festival Strings Lucerne and Daniel Dodds as the artistic director, performing with Inmo Yang, Akiko Suwanai and Maria João Pires.

Together with her younger sister Moe, she won the 1. Prize with awards and exceptional prizes in category Duo three times at the final of the SJMW (Swiss music competition for young musicians). She also won the 1. Prize with awards and exceptional prizes in category Trio at the final of the SJMW. In category Solo Violin, she won the 1. Prize with awards and exceptional prizes at the finale of the SJMW twice.

Mia also had the chance to attend several master classes, e.g. with Igor Ozim, Akiko Suwanai, Gilles Apap, Jens Ellerman, Benjamin Schmid among others.

She is now composing and producing her own music and teaches the violin as the assistant teacher of Ina Dimitrova at the Hochschule Musik - Luzern and is performing in numerous concerts.
